overview

the "writing" room

On the room there are: 8 synthesizers, 9 guitars, 7 flutes, 2 kalimba, 2 ocarinas, assorted percussion, 2 desktop computers, one notebook and too much wires.
(You can read the complete list at "
the truth")

the main room

As you can imagine (I hope), we are always changing things here.
The main idea is to "feel good".
I spent many hours in the main room and I have to feel everything in place to let inspiration flow, but... sometimes the phone rings, the doorbell rings, the secretary calls, the milkman shout, the baby cries, the car crash and so on.
Many times inspiration came by night!
This is why this cell is black.

If you have patience and want to know why, where and how is the studio, read below.

I started the studio in 1986, after disbanding the Hora do Rush Quartet. I think about doing a band without musicians, using machines, and called this project as "Casa D Máquinas" but there was a group with the same name here in Brazil and the project was dead before started. But I bought the software and have some musical ideas. Why not work? Well, first of all I need a new space. Five years after, in 1991 I have the right space for the project. I setup things and while playing with unknown groups I was building Aquilante. 1992 I started recording Angel's Dream inside a room called Aquilante, like Brancaleone's horse. It was about two years of nightmares.

In 1996, with my first CD at streets, Aquilante was ready for serious jobs, but I gave up. I'm not interesting in renting the studio to record others. I need a place to focus on my music. I love the idea of waking up in the middle of the night and have everything ready for the flow of inspiration. I'm inside the control room. I am the control room.

It's not easy to work alone. Some friends are always near to help, but most of the work are done alone. All the planning, all the sounds, all compositions, all wiring, all computer work and manutenance are made by myself. I have many pleasures working this way, because I have control over the work and no one to blame when things went wrong.

After a while, a early friend join the boat. Ricardo Calafate had his own studio (Usina) and we started working together. Now Aquilante and Umuarama (his newly studio) are the same. We can do a lot more without loosing our personalities.

(well, I'll continue later)
